It’s always a nice break in my schedule of shooting children when I get the chance to work with an adult one-on-one. I almost don’t know what to do with myself when there is no need to bust out the finger puppets or tell knock-knock jokes! But it all comes back to me pretty quickly – “head this way, shoulders that way, arms crossed like so.” I rather enjoy it, actually! The best part is presenting clients with head shots that put them in their best light – fresh, confident and professional.

Head shots should be updated every few years. So those of you out there (and you know who you are!) using that head shot from 10 years ago with the outdated hairstyle and suit that hasn’t seen the light of day since Y2K need to shoot me an email quick. Paradise! {Miami Vacation Photographer}

I was incredibly flattered when the very talented Michael of Michael Kormos Photography contacted me to photograph his family while they vacationed in Miami. I admit that I was a little nervous to shoot a fellow photographer – Michael is pretty amazing at what he does, and I didn’t want to disappoint him or his wife, Sophie! But it turns out that I didn’t need to be concerned one bit – Michael and his family were FANTASTIC in front of the camera and were among the loveliest people I’ve ever met. They really took advantage of having the hour to be quietly together as a family, and their love for one another beams through in these photos – don’t you agree? Take a nice, long look at my latest snowbirds enjoying Miami’s sun & sand!

Don’t they look like native Miamians, all sun-kissed and tanned, on this gorgeous beach?!

I loved this child! She didn’t take even 10 seconds to warm up to me – just hopped out of the car and ran over to tell me all about herself. So cute!

Sophie surprised Michael with a little kiss and I caught it – love them!

Poor dad, the professional photographer, was a cobbler with no shoes – he had no photos of himself with his children! Well, I set out to change that.

Can’t you just feel how much he adores his little girl? ♥

But let’s not forget beautiful mom!

We even got some shots of Michael and Sophie alone as the sun set over Miami – love their golden glow!

I love giving vacationers images that will help them remember their time in Miami. I am so lucky to live in this beautiful city where we can dive into the ocean in January, and sun ourselves along the shore in February. It is so wonderful when old clients return to me – it’s amazing to watch the kids grow and grow. You probably remember this family from a previous post of mine titled: “Think of it as family fun time” . The little guy was just 5 months old then, but look at him now! He’s almost two and such a delight – full of sweet smiles and boundless energy! Check him out!

The best prop for a family photographer? Relaxed parents! ~ {Miami Family Photographer} ~

There is no prop more useful in family photography than relaxed parents. And this family certainly has that going for it! This mom contacted me, and after we’d emailed each other back a forth a few times, I could tell she was an easy-going, laid back sort of person. This told me that shooting her family would be a smooth process. And that says a lot because her son is newly two – not exactly an age where a child loves to take direction! (I know you parents of two year olds out there are nodding enthusiastically in agreement!) But it turned out that this adorable little two year old was easy-peasy to shoot, and I really do think that it is because his parents had the perfect attitude going into the session. There was no scolding. No “why can’t you just stand right here?!” No “hurry up and smile, already!” Just a family hanging out at the park and letting their son do his thing. What a gift to me as their photographer that they knew what to do (and what not to do!) to get the images they wanted! Namely, to just ride the wave and let the child’s wonderful spirit shine. And shine, it did…Take a look!

Memories of her father…~{Miami Family Photographers}~

I’m sure you remember the beautiful Nathalie Cadet James from my blog entry almost one year ago to the day titled “What do you get the man who has everything?” That previous shoot did not include Nathalie’s husband because it was a surprise photo session she arranged in order to gift him some lovely canvas prints of her and her girls for his birthday. But here he finally is: the man who has everything – a wonderful wife and two gorgeous daughters who love him like crazy! The family came back to me again this year for a shoot and the pictures are nothing short of amazing. They were styled perfectly, of course. This came as no surprise since style and design is part of Nathalie’s job as head of Luxe Fete Event Planning & Design , one of Miami’s premiere event planning companies.

But the family brought more than just good looks and fresh Miami styling to their shoot. They also brought their love and adoration for one another – which I think shines through these images like a ray of golden light. This family just “gets it.” They know what life is all about : Family. Love. Each other. It was my privilege to capture all of that for them. Do you want to see it? When Nathalie saw this photo, she paid me one of the most amazing compliments I’ve ever been given by any client. You see, Nathalie lost her dear father not long ago. And when she saw this photo at her proofing session, she gasped and said “It’s like I can see my dad there on the beach with us!” I almost cried, you guys. It was kind of major. ♥

Girlies on the loose!

You know what I love about this next set of images? Everything! Seriously, everything – the dad with his girls, their huge, giggly smiles. It’s all just totally incredible. I feel like I can still hear the kids laughing…

But how about mom and dad alone? I think they are among the most beautiful people in the world both inside and out. Seeing them in the glow of this warm, sunset light was like *sigh*

Day Thirteen ~{Miami Newborn Photography}~

Thirteen days old. That’s it. Just 13 short days. She was soft, and sweet, and almost impossibly tiny. Holding her and cuddling her little face was like fresh heaven. It made me long for those early days with my own baby – now three months old – when everything and everyone was totally brand new to her. I love my job. I really, really do.

All wrapped up and sooooo cozy…

Remember readers – if you are interested in a newborn shoot, it has to be done while baby is still very tiny – within the first 14 days of life. Most newborn moms book me while they are still pregnant so that they can be sure I am available for their baby’s first session. Call right away if you have a little one on the way and want a newborn shoot!

My own…sorta! ~{Miami Family Photography}~

You regular readers already know what my three daughters look like. And yeah – these girls are not them! But they are still mine… sorta! These are my gorgeous nieces and their parents, my sister and her husband. You guys can do the math on how much fun my three girls have with their three girl cousins when we all get together. Let’s just say that the high-pitched giggles and squealing reaches the rafters. But I wouldn’t have it any other way! My nieces are little treasures to me and I am so grateful to have them in our lives. Family – that’s what it is all about! And, being that we are family, I simply MUST shoot their holiday card portraits each year – even if it means squeezing them in between my regular clients at this hectic time of year. But it’s all good – I love documenting how the girls grow, and it also gives my sister and her husband a good excuse to drive down to Miami and spend the weekend with us – it’s a win-win!

And now, without further ado, meet my people – aren’t they beautiful?!

This is one of the shots they chose for their holiday card this year – doesn’t everyone look so happy? I ♥ them so much!

Ahhh, my oldest niece. She is so beautiful, and sensitive and sweet. She’s also an accomplished violinist and ballet dancer – such a talented kid!

My middle niece is smart as can be and has a real sense of fashion. This adorable pixie haircut she’s sporting was totally her idea and it suits her so well! On any given day you can find her changing clothes three different times and coordinating each outfit with the *perfect* pair of shoes.

The youngest girl is the cutest little firecracker you’ll ever meet. She may be the tiniest of her sisters, but that word could NEVER be used to describe her huge personality. She loves to perform and will regularly treat you to a song-and-dance “show.” She has the most fantastic hair – which she absolutely will not, Not, NOT allow you to insert a barrette or hair bow into. Sister-friend needs to be FREE, y’all – no hair bows gonna hold her back!

I’ll end with a little collage of everyone – including a sweet shot of my gorgeous sister and her handsome husband together. I only wish I had a photo like this of me and my husband! I hope you enjoyed meeting my people – they are so very special to me. ♥

Isn’t this family just lovely? And the location is truly spectacular with hot pink, flowering bougainvillea creeping all along the Spanish-style pergolas and arches. This place really says “Miami” to me, and shooting there was not only fun, but inspiring.

This arch was absolutely screaming at me to photograph it! I just had to place the family beneath it for a series of shots.

I bet all she wants for Christmas is her two front teeth!

Is it just me, or do all of my clients deserve to be on a magazine cover?

Just 14 days new…~{Miami Newborn Photographer}~

This gorgeous baby boy came to me on his 14th day of life. Sleepy and sweet, he was the very definition of the word “precious.” You might remember his beautiful family from this blog post from last June . His lovely mom was almost 6 months pregnant with him in those images, if you can believe it! Her baby boy arrived, and shooting him was just as much fun as when I photographed her family last summer. I love to watch my clients’ families as they grow and change. Thank you, G Family, for having me back to peek into your wonderful little world. Your son is so very, very perfect.
